SUMMARY OF POSITION:

 The System Engineer will work under the direction of the Manager of Engineering and is responsible for all engineering design aspects of the Co-Op’s electrical system. This individual analyzes the electrical system for safe efficient operation and monitors system reliability and resolves areas of concern as necessary. Responsible for system planning, design and reliability. Insures that construction of facilities for the system are based on sound engineering designs and that they are constructed in coordination with the system long range plan.  Provides supportive information and documents for complete and accurate records and statistical reports that will insure effective management.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Develops and analyzes short and long range plans for system studies.

Develops engineering standards and specifications for construction, operations and maintenance of system facilities.

Assists Engineering Service Representatives in conjunction with developers, contractors and prospective large power consumers in the design and layout of proposed electric distribution extensions.

Assists Engineering Service Representatives with the signing of contracts and easements.

Prepares design and layout of system improvements and new construction.

Insures that adequate easements have been acquired and recorded to protect the integrity of the system.

Provides assistance to district personal as requested in the design and layout of system extensions.

Responsible for the preparation of fault current studies based on computer data, to be used in the department for system coordination.

Responsible for development and maintenance of all analytical tools, computer programs, etc. necessary to perform all engineering analysis as required to provide adequate data for engineering decisions.

Responsible for development and maintenance of data required to perform analytical analysis of system parameters, formal preparation and review of findings of the analysis.

Designs engineering projects as requested.

Prepares maps, drawings, and profile sheets as design requires.

Prepares and updates material specifications which are used in ordering all materials and provides such specifications to purchasing personal.

Directs and assists with the design, contracts and instruction of major projects as directed or assigned.

Assists with upkeep and availability of records from all substation and line meters required by engineering for voltage drop and load growth studies.

Keeps informed of new engineering developments, industry procedures and practices.  Makes recommendations of those which would be of value to the Cooperative.

Keeps informed on Public Service Commission rules and regulations, local and national codes and standards that involve areas of responsibilities.

Advises and assists the consumer and public in regard to engineering problems with electric service as requested.

Uses all required safety equipment and follows all applicable safety regulations, company policies and procedures. Reports and takes appropriate measures to address any unsafe conditions. Reports all accidents and damage to management in a timely manner.

Conducts oneself in such a manner as to contribute a better understanding of the Cooperative when in contact with members or the general public, as well as maintain   a harmonious relationship with all Cooperative personnel

Performs related duties as assigned.

 BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

EDUCATION:

 

Prefer a graduate of a four year college with a degree in engineering and/or Professional Electrical Engineer, with emphasis in power systems desirable.

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

Prefer five or more years in related experience.

OTHER SKILLS:

Possess a valid Idaho Driver’s License

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, grasp, reach outward and overhead, kneel, squat and bend. Infrequent lifting up to 50lbs. Visual acuity and manual dexterity required.
